Sometimes it is just better to enjoy stuff instead of being good with said stuff

I recently had some time to try raising my rank in Mobile Legends again. Previously, the highest I was able to get was Legend V and that was about 2 years ago. I only had time to play when I had pockets of break time during work and while on my long commutes to and from the office. Also, playing too long with strangers with the chat on is not advisable – there’s trash talk and then there’s Mobile Legends’ trash talk, which is a whole other animal.

Is there anything better than Sunday Brunch?

Anyway, I got to try starting from a relatively lower rank of Grandmaster IV since I have not played with my main account in about a year. I stopped trying when I reached Legend I with 4 stars (which, if you know, is 2 stars away from the Mythic Rank). I surpassed my previous highest rank, almost made it to the rank where the supposedly best players get (though you’ll still have to go through different levels in there), but in the process I also got a headache that lasted for 2 days along with being cranky to the point that I wanted to throw my phone every time I lost.

In the process, I briefly forgot that Mobile Legends was a game I played to de-stress, enjoy with friends (we have a squad), or simply to pass the time. I took it too seriously and I had to remind myself that I was not going to gain anything really, aside from bragging rights and a special emote that only those in the Mythic ranks can flex. The game stopped being fun.

Now, it’s true that there are Professional Mobile Legends players who earn a lot by playing this game. Understand, though, that they chose to devote a lot of time and resources to get really good at the game to supplement their talent and skills.

What I’m trying to say here is that you can choose to play the game to have fun, or you can take it seriously/competitively and reap the benefits from it. You can replace Mobile Legends with anything and it will be applicable. Basketball, Badminton, Driving, and yes even Coffee. Coffee competitors and coffee shop owners have to take coffee brewing seriously (at least majority of them, some are just really talented).

This maybe an unpopular opinion, but some home brewers take their coffee brewing too seriously and just can’t enjoy their coffee at home. There are, in fact, some who also cannot just enjoy their coffee from coffee shops as well. It’s like when Jordan Schlansky was acting all knowing about Espresso to an actual Barista during a bit in one of Conan’s remotes.

I mean sometimes we forget why we need coffee

Now we can make a case for asking people to drink proper, good coffee. However, stressing yourself out for not getting that hint of Papaya from your freshly brewed coffee and then immediately breaking the bank for an expensive grinder – only to still not get the hint of Papaya because maybe the Papaya taste you’re used to is not the same as the one the roaster was familiar with or maybe it’s really because you have different water, you get the idea. Chances are, that’s still a good tasting coffee, but you can’t just enjoy it because of that damned Papaya.

It’s good to just sit back and enjoy stuff, sometimes.
